She’s a martial arts champion
Tiffany Chen comes from a kung-fu family. Her father is Grandmaster William C.C. Chen, a renowned tai chi master and teacher. Tiffany started learning tai chi from her father when she was 16 and entered her first push hands competition that same year.
Push hands is a form of sparring that tests the balance, sensitivity, and strength of the practitioners. Tiffany excelled in this sport and won 43 gold, four silver, and two bronze medals during her competitive career. She also has several gold and silver global titles.
Tiffany was inducted into the Inside Kung-Fu Magazine’s Hall of Fame as competitor of the year in 2011. She told the magazine that her goal was to be as great as her father. “I never practiced tai chi with the intention of looking to fight. I learned the form, I learned some push hands and then I started competing in push hands,” she said.
She has a background in dance and skating
Tiffany is not only a martial arts expert, but also a talented dancer and skater. She started ballet, hula dancing, swimming, and gymnastics at age five. She also took up figure skating at age eight and won three gold medals in regional competitions at age 11.
She later switched to ballroom dancing and learned how tai chi could improve her movements. She also appeared in a dance show called “Dancing with the Movies” in 2017, where she performed with celebrities like Corbin Bleu and Marilu Henner.
She met De Niro on the set of “The Intern”
Tiffany and De Niro first crossed paths in 2015, when they both worked on the movie “The Intern”. De Niro played Ben Whittaker, a retired widower who becomes an intern at an online fashion company run by Anne Hathaway’s character.
Tiffany had a small role as one of the employees at the company. She also helped De Niro with some tai chi moves for his character. According to her website, she instructed De Niro, Hathaway, and other cast members on the set.

De Niro and Tiffany were first spotted together in August 2021, when they were seen holding hands and kissing in New York City. They sparked dating rumors after De Niro’s split from his second wife, Grace Hightower, in November 2018.
